There are six main high level emotion releasing practices.
Emotions permeate us. Emotions permeate us and affect our constitution. Our chemistry changes. Our vibration changes.
Everything in the world responds to every given thing in accordance to what it is. Water responds to oil in a particular way and oil responds to water in a particular way. The flowers respond to the sun in a particular way. You respond to a fluffy kitten in a particular way and the kitten responds to you in a particular way. When you become different, the world naturally responds to you differently.
You are a different You when permeated with sorrow from the You that you are when radiating joy. The world responds to you accordingly.
There are emotions that are heavy. When you are permeated with them you are heavy. I have taken to calling them low level emotions. Sadness. Anger. Loneliness. Fear (as in the emotion. Fear as in the instinct is a different phenomenon I will discuss in a future article).
High level emotions make you feel light. You want to dance or you want to float on the clouds. Joy. Elation. Gratitude. Awe. Love. When you emanate them, you become magnetic. People want to bask in you.
Often we are affected by layers of emotions. Emotions can mingle with other emotions and produce different varieties of feeling. You might get something like happy nostalgia. It can be strong or weak, deep or shallow. It can pass into sadness or happiness or into another confounding mix.
If you pay attention to your feelings you may even discover that each person evokes a specific emotional flavour. Some people are yummy, some are bland. Some you must spit out.
All emotions depthen you. Emotions trigger corresponding thoughts and thoughts trigger corresponding emotions. Thoughts and emotions lead to understanding. There are certain things that cannot be grasped without the underlying feeling and accompanying thoughts. So the dark emotions are not bad in themselves. The dark emotions are to be witnessed, noted, reflected on and used to transform oneself, and in time understood in the context of a lived life.
Sometimes events in your life (a break up or financial loss or other dire circumstances) drag you into the dark pits. The darkness seeps into you and builds a wall severing you from the light. You find yourself a resident of a place you are supposed to journey through. You may not recognize this version of yourself. There are times people cannot bare their own reflection. As eyes are windows to the soul this makes sense. Your own soul saturated by hate becomes repugnant to itself. If you are repugnant to yourself you are repugnant to others. There are exceptions. There are people so aligned to the light that they will see the light in you no matter how faint. Those people are healers. Like Jesus. They can draw your light out and show it to you. The act of witnessing your light amplifies it. The light heals.
If you are full of negativity and try to heal another, the result may be dire. But nothing is impossible. Sometimes two hurt people may focus on each other’s light and seemingly miraculously heal each other.
The universe wants you to learn your lesson and rise to the light. It sends wake up calls. Sometimes it sends something extraordinarily beautiful to strike you with its beauty. Sometimes it just punches you.
So what to do when you find yourself residing in darkness for too long?
1. Create Space. Your stinky thinking spawned a wall that keeps joy inducing impressions out. Beauty should not have to fight to get in and induce awe and gratitude. Create a break in the wall. Silence thought. This can be done through meditation. If anxious thoughts make it difficult to meditate, pre-meditation physical exertion can help. Shocking your body is another option. Plunging into ice water usually accomplishes this. Or just taking a cold shower. The goal is to continuously disturb the integrity of the wall.
Sometimes space is created by accident. Watch this 84 second video for an example:
2. Unify With Your Body And Ground Yourself. When trapped in negative thought loops we inevitably disconnect from the present. This leads to a disconnection from our body. Our body reminds us of this through aches and pains. Our body needs to be in the present. Learn a new physical skill. Learning a new physical skill forces you to reconnect with your body. You have no option but to become more in tune.
Most of us are also disconnected from the Earth. We don’t touch the grass or the trees with our skin. Reconnect with the Earth. Walk on grass barefoot (or on snow). Press your face against a tree. Swim in a lake.
3. Connect With Something Greater Than Yourself And/Or Be Of Service To Humanity/Fellow Earthlings. We are all connected. Negativity makes us feel disconnected. By intentionally contributing to the whole we emotionally reconnect to the wholeness of existence.
4. Immerse Yourself In Beauty. The feelings evoked by beauty unlock a connection with the divine. I wrote about it here.
5. Invoke A Eureka Moment. I wrote about it here.
6. Sincere Prayer. But what if you don’t believe in God? If you do the five things mentioned above you will probably start feeling connected to something divine. Try talking to it directly.
The thing is, each practice evokes a distinct concoction of high level emotions. Each mix of feeling and accompanied thoughts levels you up differently. The emotions you feel from learning a new skill differ from those you have when hugging a tree. So ultimately what you want to do is stack up these practices.
If you stack them up, not only will it be possible to yank yourself out of a dark funk, but to transcend high into the light. There is a point at which life becomes miraculous. Healing happens. Understanding occurs. Dreams come true. You will be stunned by the people you draw into your orbit.
The reward is grand.
