I was once attacked on a job. I was nineteen. A man grabbed me from behind. I was taking Kung Fu for a few years at that point…
Men commit about 75 percent of violent crimes.
Why are men more violent than women? Theories abound. Some studies suggest that differences in brain structure may play a role in making men more prone to violence. Higher testosterone has shown to make men who are already predisposed to violence, more violent. Sociological theories of violence postulate that violence is learned.
Or perhaps men are more violent simply because they are bigger and stronger? It is a take I heard here and there over the years. The hypothesis for it goes something like this: All humans are prone to violence. Those who are bigger know they can succeed in physically subduing another. So because they know they are stronger and less likely to be opposed, they are more likely to give into their violent inclinations. In other words, they do violence because they can.
But if the above hypothesis were true, wouldn’t smaller men be afraid of bigger women? Some may argue that they are. But is that really true? Do smaller men check the back of their car before getting in to make sure a big woman is not there ready to assault them?
There is something more about men than simply their size that makes them more prone to violence. Although I am sure size adds confidence.
Predators Prey On The Weak
Predators usually look for a victim that won’t fight back. They look for the vulnerable, ones with an unsteady gait and meek demeanor.
Domestic abusers will pick meek spouses, or through psychological warfare install great fear in their victims. Confident thriving spouses become meek terrified and reclusive.
Hobbes Says We Are All Equal
The 17th century British philosopher, in his book Leviathon, writes:
Nature hath made men so equal in the faculties of body and mind as that, though there be found one man sometimes manifestly stronger in body or of quicker mind than another, yet when all is reckoned together the difference between man and man is not so considerable as that one man can thereupon claim to himself any benefit to which another may not pretend as well as he. For as to the strength of body, the weakest has strength enough to kill the strongest, either by secret machination or by confederacy with others that are in the same danger with himself.
Even the strongest are vulnerable in their sleep. For example, in 1993, the domestic abuse victim Lorena Bobbitt severed her husband’s penis in his sleep.
So in light of Hobbes’ proclamation that humans are equal and even the most vulnerable have recourse, and considering that predators chose weaker victims, I ask:
Should women be more vicious in order to thwart attacks against predators? Should women be conditioned to respond aggressively if they happen to find themselves in a domestically abusive situation? Should they be taught to break their abuser’s knee caps in their sleep? Or you know, do a Bobbitt?
The Truth Is Women Are Already Taught to Respond With Violence In Certain Situations
For example women are told to fight to death on the spot if an attacker tries to drag them into a vehicle. We are taught that it is better to die on the spot than get taken to a secondary location.
Many women take martial arts to learn self defense.
An argument echoing through the red pills chambers contends that women should absolutely not take martial arts. It claims that martial arts give women an unrealistic expectation of being able to take on a man.
That is complete hogwash.
Anyone who takes martial arts knows that the first thing all martial arts schools teach is that the best fight is one that doesn’t happen at all. But martial arts also teach you the skills you need to fight back in case things go down.
I was once attacked on a job. A man grabbed me from behind. I was taking Kung Fu for a few years at that point. I stomped on his foot, elbowed him in the rib, and back handed him in the face. He let go and receded into a corner to pray. It was an odd situation. He was tall but extremely lanky. If he was thicker, it may not have gone as easy for me. My elbow may not have found his ribs. It may have just bounced off his belly. But I don’t see a better option than fighting back in such a case. What is certain: he didn’t expect such opposition.
Would the expectation of women fighting back decrease the violence against them?
Overall Rates Of Violent Victimization Are Comparable Between Males And Females
Men are as likely to be victims of violence as women. But, some statistics show that significantly more men get murdered by men. So perhaps raising our viciousness to equal that of men is not the answer?
However:
Gender differences in police-reported victimization are seen in the types of violent offences experienced by male and female victims. Males, for example, are more likely to be the victims of physical assault and homicide, while sexual assault victims are overwhelmingly female. Beyond the differences in the types of violent victimization they suffer, there are also gender-based distinctions in the characteristics surrounding the violent crime such as the relationship between the victim and accused, the involvement of weapons and where the crime took place. Reference here.
Gang violence is an example where men hurt men. When it comes to sexual violence and domestic abuse, the victims are overwhelmingly female.
So would being more aggressive, fierce and vicious help women thwart the kind of violence specific to them?
Would men attack women less, grope them less, follow them less if they knew a women will respond viciously?
If he knew she is willing to stick her long manicured jewel studded talons into his eyes, would he still try?
Consider This: Cats Chasing Bears Away
Cats are small. But they are killing machines. I saw countless videos of cats chasing dogs, bears, crocodiles, and other creatures. Clearly the bear could take that cat out. He can stomp on the cat and that’s it. But he rather run away. Why? Because it isn’t worth it. A vicious cat can scratch you up pretty good. Perhaps lead to an infection and death. You don’t know what the cat has behind the nails. Maybe rabies. An unhinged vicious opponent is unpredictable. And you can never write off luck siding with them.
So being vicious is clearly a deterrent for most animals.
Instead Of Teaching Women To Be More Vicious, Why Not Teach Men To Not Be Violent Aholes?
Perhaps this is a matter of doing both. We teach people to not steal, but we also lock the doors. Psychopathic predators cannot be taught.
What Do You Think?
Do you think women should be taught to be more vicious?
Should all women take martial arts? Should women wear brass knuckles when they go out? Should they carry pepper spray? Where it is legal.
How about in domestic situations? Should a woman be taught to just do whatever she needs to do (even when the man is sleeping) in order to get away?
Would you teach your daughter to be vicious? Or if you have a daughter, did you?

Men have higher muscle mass than women and are simply stronger. A small man, a big man, they can overpower a woman.
These are obviously blanket statements but they generally hold true across humanity. Outliers exist but they don't discount the rule.
Self-defense is very important but situational awareness is is under-appreciated. Many, many people get themselves in shitty situations because they are not mindful of their environment or do not think about the environment they willingly put themselves into.
Humility and pragmatism go a long way as well. Just because you can, or have the right, does not make you superhuman.
Yes, women should be taught martial arts and viciousness. All good peaceful people should learn self defense and the killer instinct for life or death situations. I’m glad you got away from your attacker and disabled him. Pepper spray yes, brass knuckles, maybe not. If one has harm initiated onto them (violence), that person should be physically and psychologically ready to inflict serious pain onto the attacker. This is not violence for it was not initiated, this is self defense.
